49. Eight Ways to Enhance the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Process

Dr. Vollmer will discuss eight ways to enhance the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) process. One, he will discuss how one can (should) and/or cannot reasonably use descriptive data. Two, he will discuss effective strategies for medical clearance: the notion of medical clearance is frequently misconstrued in such a way that clearance becomes ineffectual. Three, he will discuss ruling in and ruling out automatic reinforcement as a maintaining variable. Four, he will discuss the evidence-base for brief functional analysis approaches. Five, he will discuss the notion of efficacy treatment probes. Six, the will discuss the notion of effectiveness treatment probes. Seven, he will discuss the next level of the "why" question: a deeper level of explanation for the operant function of severe behavior. Eight, he will discuss putting all the pieces together to truly assist the individual and their family. The session will close with a general summary.
